Peru Expedition - July/August 2004

Scott took up climbing when he was seven years old, and that was
the start of climbing as a way of life. He’s been at it for nearly
eleven years now, and he’s having the time of his life traveling the
world to climb and explore. He’s probably best known for his two
record-breaking climbs: The Nose and Half Dome in Yosemite. In 2001
and 2003, respectively, he made history by being the youngest person
ever to summit each in under a day. The Nose was especially
important to him, as he climbed it in October 2001, right after the
September 11th terror attacks, to raise money for the victims and
families of that tragic day. He’s in the 2008 Guinness Book of
Records for being the youngest up The Nose. He’s also proud to claim
that he’s and his climbing partners, Steve Schneider and Heather
Baer climbed “Welcome to the Slabs of Koricancha” (VI 13a, 650m, 13
pitches) at 17,470 feet – the hardest route in Peru. They made the
first American ascent of the route, and the second ascent overall.
Currently, Scott’s climbing outside as much as possible, trying to
climb harder and harder grades. He’s getting ready to go on a
yearlong road trip when he graduates from high school in June and he
continues to use climbing to raise money for worthy causes.
